When Emma was a little girl, she wanted to be a dairy farmer. But when she and her family visited one, her brother pushed her into a runoff creek (a mixture of fecal matter, blood, and spoiled feed). She cannot forget the smell or the experience. This is where her fear of germs comes from. (Which is understandable, considering.)
