There is only one company that rivals the CG mastery of Squaresoft, Blizzard. All of Blizzard's game from Diablo to Starcraft deserves a place on this list, but we'll stick with the most modern.
Wow there was so much to love about this scene when this footage was released. A mysterious man drapped with a rain coat smoking a cigarette walking at a normal gait over a rain soaked Brooklyn Bridge. Cars with their headlight rush by, rain puddles splashing. Suddenly the man flings his cape from his body and goes into a full on sprint. He bungie jumps down from the bridge while triggering his cloaking mechanism. He's invisible, but we can still see him because the rain is bouncing off his body.
So many innovative technical things are going on in that scene and we are told this is all done realtime with the in-game engine. So many details. There were droplets of rain that ran down the camera lens with seemingly random paths... it made you imagine the possibilites the gameplay would introduce.
This game took video game CG opening sequences to a whole new level. The cg is so awesome in fact that it still looks beautiful to this day. Just watch it, and you will agree! Haunting music, surreal scenes, and a hint of a love story...the composition is spot on.
Meteor, Jenova, Materia...ah those words bring back fond memories. Back before CG was in its infancy in videogames, Final Fantasy 7 heavy use of CG cutscenes revolutionized the gaming industry. Who can forget the scene where Sephiroth walks into the fire... the first glimpse of a Weapon monster... Cloud gently laying down Aerith in her watery tomb. Unforgettable! The cg may not hold up to today's standard, but it was mind blowing back then.
Some Modern Warefare players never played or never finished the single player campaign in Modern Warefare 1 or 2. WTF. The campaigns are some of the most exciting, explosive, epic set pieces I ever experienced in gaming. And this trailer really shows it off... even after beating the single player campaign, this trailer makes me want to run through it again. Epic.
Halo combines live action with seamless computer graphics to create a vivid vision of war with hostile alien enemy.
This is my favorite video game trailer. The music, the ambience, the lighting, the set pieces all combine to tell a story of a hopeless and foreboding world. And the ending is just Mad...
