MUST EAT Food Spots in Portland
2389 views, 0 reactions and 2 comments

Portland Oregon may be rainy but it has some of the best hidden food treasures. If you happen to be around the area, here are the MUST-GO food spots.

Bunk Sandwiches definitely takes it up a notch with their sandwiches.  If you are looking for hearty sandwiches go no futher than bunks.  They have a way of mixing these different flavors together to make a masterpiece of a sandwich.  While I waited in line I saw someone order the Meatball Parmigiano Hero. I was like DAAAMN!  It looked so amazing.  My mouth was already watering as I appoached the register.  But at the register I had to order what my cousin suggested, the Pork Belly with extra meat.  Trust me you want extra pork belly.  I don't know what they put in it but it's an awesome blend of flavors when you bite into it.  The bread was awesome, toasted with a flat panini press adding that crusty texture you look for in a great sandwich.  I have seen Bunk's Sandwiches on the Food Network a couple times and it definitely didn't disappoint.

Voodoo Dougnut is a very unique donut shop.  You walk in and the first thing you smell is bacon.  Bacon??? Yeah, bacon.  This is mainly due to one of their most popular donuts, the Bacon Maple Bar, a maple glaze donut with bacon on top.  I had to try it cuz it seemed so weird to me.  Surprisingly it is pretty damn good.  The salty bacon goes great with the sweetness from the maple glaze.  If the bacon wasn't there, the donut in my opinion would be too sweet, so it makes for a great combination.

What's great about the Voodoo Doughnut is that they do all the things that people would do if they were to have fun with donuts - put cereal on top, stick pretzels in 'em, make all kinds of silly shapes and sizes.  Besides it being a fun donut shop, it's also pretty delicious.  The donut itself is great and the different donut fillings definitely rival the best around.

Sometimes you don't need a restaurant to get good food.  You just need a window.  The Waffle Window is one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to.  Their waffles are not only delicious but really look awesome when you get them.

The dish I tried at the Waffle Window was their signature and a hometown favorite,  the 3-B's with peach jam.  The 3 B's stand for Bacon, Brie and Basil.  An unusual sounding combination at first but when you take one bite, it all makes sense.  And it has a small touch of peach jam to add that bit of sweetness to this savory delight.  But don't get it twisted, the Waffle Window has amazing sweet varations on the waffle as well.  I really don't need to rave about them, I'll let the pictures do all the talking.

As close to East Coast pizza you can get on the West Coast.  Sticking to the traditional way pizza is to be made.  Apizza Scholls takes it's pizza seriously and it shows in the authenticity of flavor it maintains in its pies.  Apizza Scholls maintains it's integrity but sticking to the simple rules the way pizza should be made, like no more than three toppings.  They may throw you out literally if you try to order more than 3.  They say, to keep the pureness of the pizza and so it can cook evenly you must keep it to three toppings.  Also, there is no order by the slice here.  Either order the whole pizza or go home.  I gotta say with all the rules they have, the pizza is perfect.  I guess the high heat the pizza cooks at makes for the best melty cheese with that charred thin crust you only get from authentic NY style pizza.  Definitely a must go for pizza lovers.

Bacon anyone?

Half and Half, Yummmmm!
The highlight of my trip to Portland.  If you visit or are lucky enough to live there, you MUST try The BrunchBox and get one of their famous burgers.  I stood in line contemplating what to get and decided to tackle the Redonkadonk.  As I was standing in line the man behind me said it's the best burger ever.  And I thought to myself, ok I've heard people say that before but with a name like Redonkadonk, it must be something special.  Trust me when I say this burger really lives up to the name.  It is seriously redonkulous.  If you don't believe me check out what's inside: a juicy hamburger patty, bacon, ham, SPAM(yes I said it SPAM), and a fried egg.  And if that didn't stop your heart, they serve it between two grilled cheese sandwiches!  What!  It is seriously no joke.  Everyone needs to experience this divine burger before they die.  It would be the best way to go.  It is hidden among the many food stands in downtown Portland.
